Making science accessible to everyone

WHAT WE OFFER

Four ways we share knowledge

Each activity serves a different audience, but they all share one goal: to make environmental biotechnology visible, understandable, and actionable.

Green MicroTheatre

Educational Activities for Children and Primary Schools

Within interactive lessons we invite children to become a part of other worlds – worlds of metals and microbes. They can meet with personified metals or microorganisms „nature´s superheros“, explore sites inhabited by them and learn their characteristics. Simple environmental challenges from everyday life are introduced and children jointly try to find solutions. The emphasis is given on complex learning trying to solve particular environmental challenges such as metal recycling or bacterial metal recovery with the aim to show that fighting the climate change is in our hands and our knowledge can help it significantly. Children in interactive lessons actively acquire hands on experience resulting in greater understanding of specific topic and developing a sense of responsibility for the natural world and actively contribute to its preservation.

Environmental scientists, artists and teachers from Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic created interactive lessons using elements of Puppet Theatre to increase the interest of children aged 10 – 12 in natural science and technology. The specific emphasis is given on environmental sciences. See more

Science Popularization

Making Science Accessible to Everyone

We are active in science popularization because we believe that even the most brilliant biotechnologies are useless if people don’t understand them. For over 20 years, interest in natural sciences has been declining among young people, while scientific literacy drops across whole society. The consequences are real: promising green technologies face skepticism and slow adoption, not because they don’t work, but because people simply don’t understand them. Mention using bacteria to clean toxic waste or microorganisms to produce valuable materials, and many instinctively recoil—unable to imagine how powerful and safe these biological tools actually are. Through engaging lectures and workshops for teenagers, adults, teachers, and industry professionals, we make environmental biotechnology accessible and compelling. We show how nature’s own solutions—from plants healing contaminated soil to microbes fighting pollution—can address climate change, improve air quality, and preserve ecosystems. Because understanding science isn’t just about education. It’s about empowering people to trust and embrace the innovations our planet urgently needs.

7th International Scientific Conference

We are happy to announce the 7th international scientific conference Biotechnology and Metals that provides a forum for experts from various fields to discuss the newest trends in environmental technology and biotechnology application for raw materials processing, metal recovery, waste treatment and environmental protection.

Researchers from both academia and industry are welcome to join the conference in High Tatras, Slovakia in October, 2026.

ORGANIZERS: ALGAJAS, Institute of Geotechnics, Slovak Academy of Sciences, and Slovak Mining Society

Registration will be open in April 2026

Proposal Writing

Training in European Projects Preparation

We offer a training for PhD. students, early-stage researchers, junior academics new to European project applications and research support staff involved in grant preparation This intensive two-day training program (16 hours) provides PhD students and early-stage researchers with comprehensive skills in European project proposal writing through a balanced combination of expert instruction and hands-on practice. The training is led by instructors with many years of experience in evaluating and preparing European projects, giving participants insights directly from experts who know what makes a project successful.

Technology without understanding is just expensive magic.

We believe that the discoveries made in research labs should not stay hidden behind closed doors. Our science popularization activities are designed to inspire curiosity, build understanding, and empower people to engage with science — whether they’re schoolchildren discovering microbes for the first time, professionals writing European project proposals, or researchers gathering to share their latest findings.

If any of our activities caught your interest, or if you would like us to organize a tailored training or workshop for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’ll be happy to create a solution that fits your needs.
